Meet ZenCube, your smart, natural health lamp!
While most smart home vendors are trying to sell us ever-smarter, or cleverer bulbs, one company at least is looking at the holistic benefits that light, and salt, can provide.

That’s a lot of aspiration for a little white box, and we’re keen to see what it can actually do.
Badged as the world’s first smart Himalayan Saltt Lamp, these lamps are long-believed to generate negative ions to counter all the positive ones thrown into our environment by tech gadgets, smartphones and so on. They are earthier versions of the negative-ion generators that were popular in the eighties.
With an LED light for a changeable glow, the smart version of this age old remedy should help improve both your area and your spirit. The Himalayan Crystal Salt Lamp can boost the negatively charged ions in the air, helping counteract the bad ions from all our gear. Negative ions also come from the sea and waterfalls, to give you a hint of how they help improve the atmosphere.
It also features an oil compartment, so you can drop in essential oils to give a relaxing aura to a room, all the while changing the atmosphere through your smartphone app by changing the color to something suitable. You can probably play ambient music or whale song out of your phone too to really kick back.

Of course, you can get traditional Himalayan salt lamps without the tech for a lot less, but the groovy factor of smart lighting, while slightly counter-intuitive in a health product, should make it more fun, and soothing.
There are some legitimate benefits to this high-tech approach too, no melting salt, no heat, no risk from candles and it is very low energy. The ZenCube will be available in black or white polycarbonate, with the organic salt rock at the heart of the boxy creation. A lot of smart design has gone into the cube, with lighting cleverly set and providing enough warmth to activate the essential oils.
Otherwise this is a fairly inert box, but could do wonders if you’re used to feeling better about things after a walk along the beach. The negative ions replicate what’s in the sea air, and even if it is just a placebo effect, you’ll definitely feel more relaxed with this smart cube in your lounge or bedroom.
