Neato Botvac D6 Connected vs. Ecovacs Deebot N79S: Which is the Better Buy?

Last updated: September 10, 2024 by Patrick Sinclair Leave a Comment

The Neato Botvac D6 Connected was launched at the IFA 2018. It was designed and created with pet lovers as its main target market, but it is also ideal for people who suffer from allergies. What are the things you can expect from this robot vacuum?

Meanwhile, the Ecovacs Deebot N79S was launched in February 2018 and is one of the latest robot vacuuming offerings from Ecovacs.

How does the Neato Botvac D6 compare with the Ecovacs Deebot N79S? Which one is the better buy?

Main Differences Between Neato Botvac D6 Connected vs Ecovacs Deebot N79S

The Main Differences Between Neato Botvac D6 Connected vs Ecovacs Deebot N79S are:

  • Neato Botvac D6 Connected has a Quick boost charging system, whereas Ecovacs Deebot N79S has a longer-lasting battery.
  • Neato Botvac D6 Connected  let you use IFTTT recipes, whereas Ecovacs Deebot N79S comes with a Smart Motion technology
  • Neato Botvac D6 Connected app lets you see where your robot has cleaned, whereas Ecovacs Deebot N79S comes with a three-stage cleaning system.
  • Neato Botvac D6 Connected has a Neato Facebook chatbot, whereas Ecovacs Deebot N79S is more affordable.

Neato Botvac D6 Connected

Neato Robotics used to have gaps in its line of D-shaped robot vacuums. For example, they came out with the Neato Botvac D3, D5, and D7. The Botvac D6, along with the Botvac D4, serves to fill these gaps. As you can expect, it shares the same features as the previous Botvac Connected models.

For one, the Neato Botvac D6 Connected has a D shape, a design that allows the robot vacuum to get closer to the walls and edges. It comes with a wide main brush, a side brush, and a powerful vacuum that helps it clean your floors.

The Botvac D6 Connected is 13.21 inches wide by 12.56 inches deep, and it is 3.92 inches tall. The width of this robot vacuum, as well as its shape, allows it to have a longer brush, which ensures that it cleans a larger area in one pass. It can also go under most furniture, even those with a low clearance. The robot vacuum weighs 7.5 pounds.

Mobile app and smart integrations

The Neato Botvac D6 connects to your Wi-Fi network, allowing you to pair your robot vacuum with your mobile phone. By downloading the companion mobile app, you will be able to do the following:

  1. Start, stop, pause, and resume cleaning sessions remotely. You do not have to bend down and push a button to do all of these. You can also start cleaning even when you are not home just as long as you have your smartphone with you.
  2. Set up schedules.
  3. See where your robot has cleaned using the floor maps.
  4. Set up virtual no-go zones.
  5. Operate your robot vacuum from your wrist if you have an Apple Watch. You can download a separate app for this.

Apart from the mobile app, the Botvac D6 also responds to voice commands. If you have Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant, you can just tell it what to do. You can also use the Neato Facebook chatbot to start cleaning or use IFTTT recipes to make your Botvac D6 work with other devices. For instance, there is an IFTTT recipe that will allow your robot vacuum to send you an e-mail when it is done.

Laser mapping and navigation technology

The Neato Botvac D6 Connected uses the LaserSmart navigation technology, which uses lasers to scan your room. It will then create floor maps, which it will use to find its way around. The Neato Botvac D6 runs in parallel lines. This cleaning pattern helps the Botvac D6 ensure comprehensive coverage so that it does not miss any spot. The Botvac D6 has enough space to store up to three floor plans.

Virtual No-Go Lines

If you do not want your robot vacuum to go into a particular room or if you want to keep it from leaving a room, you can just draw virtual no-go lines on the mobile app. Using the clean maps, you can just use your finger to close off an area.

Other features you should know about the Neato Botvac D6 Connected

Aside from these features, you can also enjoy these:

  • Auto charge and resume. The Botvac D6 will continue to clean until its battery runs low. It will then find its way back to the charging dock. Once the battery is full, it will automatically launch itself and continue cleaning.
  • Perfect for pet hair. With a high-efficiency filter that can trap dust, dirt, and allergens inside the dustbin, the Neato Botvac D6 Connected is also able to collect pet hair and dander from your floor.
  • Long battery life. A fully charged Neato Botvac D6 Connected can run for up to two hours. This makes it ideal for large houses.
  • Quick boost charging. The Botvac D6 allows you to use the quick boost feature that is very useful if your robot vacuum runs out of battery juice in the middle of cleaning. The Botvac D6 will compute how much charge it needs to finish the job and then goes back to its dock. Once it has enough battery juice, it will immediately launch itself to clean the rest of the room.

Pricing and ratings

Check here for the price of the Neato Botvac D6 Connected. You can buy it from the manufacturer itself, or from third-party retail sites, such as Best Buy or Amazon.

This robot vacuum has a 4.2-star rating out of 5.0 on Amazon. Positive reviews talked about the robot vacuum’s performance, especially with pet hair. They also loved the mobile app and its many functions. Meanwhile, negative reviews talked about how the Neato Botvac D6 cannot seem to work quietly in turbo mode. If you are watching TV while the vacuum is cleaning, you will have to turn up the TV’s volume. Some people also complained about how the robot vacuum stops when it encounters power cords.

Pros and cons of the Neato Botvac D6 Connected

The Neato Botvac D6 Connected has some of the most advanced features that you would find on a robot vacuum. It even does things better than most other vacuums. You would love how it uses lasers rather than a camera in mapping out your floors. The laser would be able to create floor maps even when it is dark.

You also have more ways to interact with the Botvac D6, and you can be sure that your floors have been adequately cleaned by looking at the cleaning history. If you have fragile furniture and decor, you can invoke the Botvac D6’s extra care navigation function to help keep these delicate things safe.

Furthermore, the quick boost feature allows you to save time. You no longer have to wait for the battery to be fully recharged before it can resume cleaning and finish its work.

But the Neato Botvac D6 is not perfect. For instance, it uses a spiral combo brush with bristles, and that could mean some kind of tangling when it deals with pet hair. Nevertheless, no less than Neato guarantees that their brushes are ideal for cleaning up pet hair, so this should not be a dealbreaker.

Ecovac Deebot N79S

Not to be confused with an earlier model, the Ecovacs Deebot N79S[/easyaz is an updated version of the Ecovacs Deebot N79.

The Ecovacs Deebot N79S uses a three-stage cleaning system and has a longer-lasting battery than the Deebot N79. It also offers voice command capabilities that cannot be seen in the earlier model.

The Deebot N79S also has a max mode that gives your carpets and floors a deeper clean.

What Can You Expect from the Ecovacs Deebot N79S?

The Ecovacs Deebot N79S has the Smart Motion technology, which allows it to be more thorough. With a systematic cleaning path, the Deebot N79S also passes through the same area multiple of times, making sure that it cleans every spot.

On top of that, you also have different cleaning modes that help you clean up a variety of messes. You have the auto mode for everyday cleaning or the edge mode for cleaning edges and along the walls. You can also invoke the spot cleaning that gives one area a very thorough clean. If you need more power for a stubborn mess, you can choose the max vacuum mode that uses increased suction power to get rid of the dirt.

Like most other robot vacuums, the Deebot N79S has a three-stage cleaning system that uses a V-shaped main brush, two side brushes, and a vacuum suction.

Connectedness and other features

The Deebot N79S also connects to your Wi-Fi network. You can control it from your mobile phone or via voice commands using Amazon Echo.

Furthermore, the Ecovacs Deebot N79S will be able to charge itself when power runs low. It has a high-efficiency filter that can trap dust and debris in the dustbin instead of recirculating back into the air your breathe.

Rating and pricing of the Ecovacs Deebot N79S

The Ecovacs Deebot N79S has a rating of 4.2 stars out of 5.0  on Amazon, where you can buy it from various sellers.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Does the Deebot n79s learn?

Even though the Ecovacs Deebot N76 is one of the most intelligent affordable robots, and if it’s connected to WiFi, this robot can do a mapping of your house.

What does the extra care navigation feature do on the Botvac D6?

Your Botvac D6 does its best to clean every inch of your floors. So it gets very close to walls or stationary object. With extra care navigation, your robot will be more careful manoeuvring around your delicate items.

How do I reset my Deebot N79S?

To reboot the Deebot N79S Robot, you just have to press and hold the “start/pause” button for a total of 3 seconds. Once this action is done, set the current time. The unit should beep for three times and the indicator light will turn blue.

Our Recommendations

There are a lot of things that are similar between the two robot vacuums. Both the Deebot N79S and the Botvac D6 Connected can connect to your Wi-Fi network and both have with a companion mobile app that allows you to operate the robot vacuums. Both also have scheduling and Amazon Alexa support.

Robot Width (inches)  13.9  13.2
Robot Height (inches)  3.27  3.92
Side Brushes   2  1

The Neato Botvac D6 Connected will amaze you with its LaserSmart navigation system, not only because of the floor plan it creates but because of the features that it enables, such as the auto resume after charging and the cleaning history. If you have Google Assistant, you will also want this over the Deebot N79S. While the Deebot N79S supports Google Assistant, you might encounter problems using it for voice commands.

The Deebot N79S uses two side brushes instead of just one. Plus, you can get it fheaper than the Botvac D6. So, yes, the Ecovacs Deebot N79S delivers an efficient clean. However, it just does not have all the bells and whistles that the Botvac D6 offers.

Which one should you buy? That depends on what you need. If you need a Wi-Fi connected robot that also scans your floor and creates maps, then you should splurge on a Neato Botvac D6 Connected. But if you are contented with a wallet-friendly robot vacuum that does the job but does not come with too many features, then go for the Deebot N79s.
